Marilyn Ruth Lane (née Bensmiller) died in her home on February 24, 2021 in Citrus Heights, CA. She was 88.
Marilyn was born on December 12, 1932 in San Fernando, CA, the youngest daughter of Charles and Vivian Bensmiller-Thomas. She was raised in San Francisco and attended Mission high school. While raising her four children she spent her time sewing baking constructing and volunteering with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the PTA. After moving to Sacramento, she earned an Associate’s Degree in accounting from Sacramento City College. She worked as an accountant and supervisor for the State of California in the Department of Rehabilitation. She retired in 1992 and was a highly valued retired annuitant for more than a decade. As a retiree, she loved to sew, bake, read, travel the U.S., garden, go to the movies, play cribbage, digitize photos, stargaze, and watching her family grow. Within the last four years she loved to play bingo, which she looked forward to each Thursday. She was also a philanthropist, entrepreneur, teacher of sewing, quilter, and carpenter.
As the cherished family matriarch, she was patient, accepting and loved unconditionally. Never one to miss anything or complain, she was always up for an adventure and was great company. Affectionately known as G.G., she attended every birthday, game, or performance of her great-grandkids that she could.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters Pat Soberanis of San Rafael and Jeri Rowland of Citrus Heights; a son Craig Durkin (Patricia) of Missouri; granddaughter Corinne Rowland (Christian Deras) of Sacramento; grandson, Jack, of Madison, Wisconsin; and Great-grandchildren Christian and Cambria of Sacramento. She is preceded in death by son Rick Soberanis; her sisters, Beverly Vanden Brink and Barbara Schwiger and brother, Richard Bensmiller.
