John Bencivengo Sr.

November 17, 1942 – October 26, 2021 (age 78)

John Bencivengo Sr, of Antelope, California passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021 surrounded by family. He was a loving brother, father, pops, grandfather, poppy, uncle, and friend.

John was born November 17, 1942 in Dover, NJ to late August Bencivengo and Gertrude Conn Bencivengo. He grew up and graduated high school in Hackettstown, New Jersey. While in New Jersey he gained experience in the family masonry business, auto mechanics, and the tree cutting trade.

As a young man, John got hired on as an arborist by the City of Downey and made the move out west to California. John loved to work with his hands and was a jack of all trades, even trying his hand at raising ostriches once. John eventually realized his passion was turning a wrench. He was a certified mechanic by trade and owned a 76-service station in the 80s.

After retirement John enjoyed a good cup of coffee, watching old westerns, and staying connected with his loved ones through Facebook. He cherished quality time with friends and family and taking care of his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his children John Bencivengo Jr. & wife Kirsten of Calfon, NJ, Jeannie Cerda & husband Gritzko of Budd Lake, NJ, Michael Bencivengo & wife Lori of Holland, TX, Daryl Bencivengo of Folsom, CA; former daughter-in-law Breanna White of Antelope, CA; his niece Tabitha Hockett & husband Mikel of Garden Valley, CA; God daughter Tricia Hockett-Acosta, his siblings Gus Bencivengo of Lincoln, CA, Nicholas Bencivengo Sr of Hackettstown, NJ, James Bencivengo of Hackettstown, NJ, Sandra Bartek of Stanhope, NJ, Linda Aranda of Anaheim, CA, Karen Burd of Mt. Bethel, PA; his grandchildren Kyle & wife Bobbie, Andrew, Adam, Anthony, Sarah, Matt, Maci, Alexa, Jacob, Sophie, Lily, Maddox, Joey, Brynn; and one great granddaughter, Coraline.

John is preceded in death by daughter Tammy Lynn O’Brien, sisters Arlene Hendershot, Anna Marie Sexton, and Sharon Scudder, and his parents August and Gertrude Bencivengo.
