Obituary

Joan Marie Santos

Our beloved Joan left us on January 8, 2020 in Sacramento, California to join her husband Todd and her much-beloved parents, May Prechodko Kelleher and Ronold Kelleher, in eternal rest. Born April 2, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, Joan was much admired for her ability to listen, liven up any occasion with her fun sense of humor, and for her countless kindnesses to friends and family.  She took special pride in helping to raise her many nieces and nephews, providing a fun atmosphere along with telling them straight up should the need arise.  Joan was a great athlete, having played softball and on a bowling team.  An avid Cubs and Bears fan, Joan and was also a long-time season ticket holder for the Sacramento Kings, and she delighted in being highlighted at a Sacramento Kings game as a long-time fan.  She performed many acts of service for family members, taking them to doctor’s appointments and seeing to their needs.  She was always the first to arrive for family events to help out and bring a favorite dish or two.  She loved to visit her brother Jeff and wife Kim in Whidbey Island, and being a grandmother to Austin, Dru and Ali brought her special joy.  She and her sister Judy were especially close and Judy and her husband Eric nursed Joan through a lifetime of medical illnesses. She was truly unique and her leaving has left a big hole in our hearts. Joan was predeceased by her parents, husband Todd, and brother Jim Kalvelage (Julie). She leaves behind to grieve: her faithful dog Rusty, her six siblings and their families: Rich Kalvelage (Jeannie), Patricia Nash, Kathy Val (Steve), Jeff Kalvelage (Kim), Judy Salmon (Eric) and Joe Kalvelage (Tracy), her step-son Mike (Leslie), grandchildren Austin, Dru and Ali, many nieces and nephews and long-time friends such as Wayne Reeder, Jr.

Special recognition goes to Joan’s physicians Dr. Philip Poor and Dr. Kenneth Wiesner for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided her for many years. Also to be recognized are Sutter Hospice and family hospice providers sister Kathy, niece Jessica and daughter-in-law Leslie and step-son Mike.

Services were held on March 7, 2020 in Sacramento and were private.
