Robert Lee Edwards of Rancho Cordova peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 25th surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Whitehall, New York on July 26th, 1931 to Elizabeth and Arthur Edwards. When his family moved to Flushing, NY he began shining shoes in Manhattan at the age of 9, then began caddying. Though poor, he loved his childhood in NY. When he was 16, Bob was discharged from the Army and moved to Los Molinas, California to join his family where he met his future wife, Donna (Genie) Foster. After serving in the Air Force, Bob and Genie made the Sacramento area their home where they owned Bob’s Pastry Shop in North Sacramento and later in Auburn. Bob moved on to work in the construction industry in several positions, but his favorite occupation was working in tunnels as a miner and eventually as an inspector until he retired at the age of 83. He was a long time member of Laborers Local Union 185. Bob is survived by his loving wife Genie of 69 years, their children: Donna (Gary) Boise, Karen Leighty, James Edwards, John (Angela) Edwards, and Shannon (Eric) Alward; sister Nancy Coffman, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons, Bobby and David, son in-law, Dr. Steve Leighty and siblings, Norman Edwards, Jean Wikoff, and Kathy Mann. Bob was very proud of his family and showered them with love and encouragement. Everyone was Bob’s friend. He had a way of making you feel welcome and accepted. He was a generous man with a kind heart who reached out to others in need. His favorite pastime was to have coffee with a donut in the early morning. He enjoyed watching mysteries, golf and football on TV either alone or with his children and grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Chapel Newcastle at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 30th, 2019. Location 661 Newcastle Road, Newcastle CA, 95658.
