Peggy D. Porter, 91, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Born on October 24, 1934, in Kyrock, Kentucky, to the late Hardin and Bessie Doyle, she was the youngest of 10 children and the last surviving of her nine siblings.

After graduating from the Norton Memorial Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky, Peggy worked as a registered nurse at Norton Hospital for five years. There, she met her sweetheart, Thomas (Tom) Porter. They married in December 1961 and moved to Sacramento, California.

After moving to Sacramento, Peggy devoted herself to her home and family. An enthusiastic golfer, she played several times a week with local women’s clubs and the many friends she made on the course. She and Tom, both avid bridge players, enjoyed couples bridge, and Peggy also played with her women’s bridge group. When she wasn’t golfing or playing bridge, she loved to read.

Peggy is survived by Tom, her husband of 64 years; her daughter, Leah Grider and son-in-law Barry of Louisville, Kentucky; and her grandson, Eric Grider, a student at the University of California, Davis.

The family extends special thanks to Peggy’s exceptional team of caregivers, whose support over the past several years allowed her to remain at home with Tom during her final years.

No services are planned at this time. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
