Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, yet profound love, that we announce the passing of our beautiful son Nicholas Anthony Squier who was born on June 29th, 1990 and left us on March 16th, 2026 at the age of 35.

Nick lived life passionately but Nick also lived a life that was at times messy and complex. Nick was a fighter and as difficult as things could be he also brought those he cared about immense joy. His life is not defined by his struggles but rather by the pure joy he brought into our lives.

Born in Minnesota to Diane Orak (Squier) and John Squier, Nicholas had an infectious smile that could light up a room. He loved music, the beach, soccer (football), collecting shoes and spending time at the dog park with his beloved dog, Misha and driving his car. Nick was not well read in the traditional sense but he had an insatiable curiosity and If he found something he was passionate about he would proceed to “go down a rabbit hole”. He would research anything and everything on the chosen subject. He would then call and text those he cared about to regale us on his newest chosen endeavor..

Though he fought often silent battles with mental health and addiction for many years, Nick never stopped trying to find his footing. He was resilient in ways that many never saw, and he loved his family and friends with a fierce loyalty. Loyalty and compassion were hallmarks of our son’s character. He cared deeply for his friends and family and had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether young or old, regardless of background, Nick never met a stranger—every encounter was an opportunity to leave an indelible mark. After the loss of his best friend in 2018 Nick again struggled to find his footing. He got his dog Misha and she filled some of the void left by that loss.

Nicholas is survived by his parents, Diane Orak and John Squier, stepfather Kevin Orak, stepmother Heather Squier; his sister Alexandra Frost (Squier), brothers Jake Orak, Josh Orak, and Lukas Squier, his grandparents Craig and Geri Gorsuch and Wally and Carol Squier, as well as a extended family and a very wide circle of friends who all knew the kind gentle soul that lived underneath the struggles. Nick was predeceased by his beloved aunt Sara Gorsuch and his best friend Carter Falzarano, I expect they had quite the reunion.

Nick’s greatest wish was to return to Florida and the beach. To honor his wishes we will return him to the ocean in Flagler Beach at an informal celebration of life/memorial. In lieu of flowers or any assistance the family asks that you honor Nick’s memory by making a donation to the America Foundation for Suicide Prevention at: https://supporting.afsp.org/campaign/Nicholas_Squier-Memorial-Fund or White Rose Rescue who have been our angels in a time of great need to find a loving forever home for Nick’s beloved dog Misha. at: https://wrsanctuary.org/

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the suicide and crisis lifeline at: 988.

We are devastated to lose him this way but we take solace in knowing that our sweet boy is finally at peace, free from the overwhelming weight of the world.
