Maurice Gilmore Jr.

Maurice Gilmore, Jr., was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 3, 1954, and passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, surrounded by his large and loving family. Maurice now joins his beloved parents, Bertha Lee Gilmore and Maurice Gilmore, Sr., in heaven.

Maurice is survived by his devoted wife, Esterly Guillenea Gilmore, the joy of his life. They shared more than 34 years of marriage, built on love, companionship, and unwavering devotion to family. Family was the cornerstone of Maurice’s life, and he was richly blessed with three generations of descendants.

He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Robert Gilmore; his sisters, Honorable Melody Stewart and Paula Elder (husband, Eric); and his children, Michelle, Claudia, Leonard, and Jordan.

Maurice leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Priscilla, Arianna, Reanna, Amanda, Triston, Lennea, and Brandon, as well as his great-grandchildren: Aurora, Mauricio, Mateo, and Nicolas. He is also survived by his faithful walking partner and non-human child, Ziggy, who brought him daily joy.

Maurice graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1972. Following graduation, he embarked on a life adventure by moving to Los Angeles. He earned two bachelor’s degrees, first in History from UCLA, followed by a bachelor’s degree in English-History from Long Beach University, and completed additional graduate studies toward a master’s degree.

Maurice dedicated his professional career to public service, beginning as a Driver License Examiner for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. He later became a Manager at the San Jose Driver Safety office, ultimately finishing his career in Sacramento, where he was respected for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to safety.

Maurice is remembered for his calmness, wisdom, patience, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
