Mary Jo Ingalls, a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother, passed away on July 16, 2025, at the age of 78, in Roseville, California, following a sudden heart attack. Born on February 14, 1947, in Indiana, Mary Jo was a radiant spirit whose kindness and love touched everyone she met.
Mary Jo dedicated herself to her family and career, retiring as an administrative assistant for the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues.
Mary Jo never met a stranger as she had the gift of gab which immediately made you feel comfortable and at ease no matter the situation. Her personality was characterized by a warmth that enveloped those around her. A loving and kind individual, Mary Jo had a unique ability to put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was never hesitant to voice her opinions, but always with best intention of helping others as her motivation.
Mary Jo had a deep appreciation for all things with a butterfly. This passion served as a symbol of her vibrant spirit and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. She also relished her time spent in Las Vegas, enjoying the thrill of the poker machines. Always though, her deepest love was for family and the two granddaughters she adored and bragged about to all who would listen.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Ingalls; her son, Brian Heap; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Heap; and her granddaughters, Peyton Heap and Maddie Heap. She is also survived by her beloved stepdaughters, Jennifer Moore and Katie Mitchell.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her loving parents, Harry and Maxine Gebhard, and her brothers, Michael and Steven Gebhard.
In remembering Mary Jo, we find comfort in the legacy of affection she leaves behind—her warmth will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends as they navigate life without her.
