Mary Beatrice Horton (77), of Elk Grove, Ca. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on
  
  the evening of December 17 th , 2023. Mary was born August 28 th , 1946, to Joseph and Beatrice
  
  Cosgrove and was raised in Bakersfield California. Mary is survived by her son, John and two
  
  daughters Betsey (son in law Lindsay) and Amy (son in law Ken), 10 grandchildren; Christopher,
  
  Brittany, Chloe "Coco", Jeffery, Vincent, Antonio, Sacha (Jake), Alexis and Haileigh: 7 great-
  
  grandchildren of which one great grandson is due in March, cousins John and Jacqui, and many
  
  other loving friends that she considered all family. Mary is proceeded in death by her sons, Tony
  
  and Joe.
 
  Mary received her primary and secondary education attending Catholic Schools, graduating
  
  from Garces Memorial High School in 1964. Mary began her college education at the University
  
  of Pacific majoring in music with a minor in business, ultimately completing her graduate studies
  
  with a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology. Mary moved to Manteca, Ca. in
  
  1973, where she proudly navigated various roles as a mother dedicated to raising her five
  
  children, working primarily as an educator for the Manteca Unified School District and in the
  
  evening hours she taught piano lessons. In 1997, Mary began working for the Sacramento
  
  Unified School District, retiring in 2011 as an Academic Counselor.
 
  Mary held multiple titles throughout her life, but being a mother was by far her most cherished
  
  until she was awarded the title of grandmother, affectionately known by her grandchildren as
  
  “Noni”. As a mother, she was an active and passionate supporter attending all sports and
  
  extracurricular activities and this compassion and dedication continued with her grandchildren.
  
  Mary’s eclectic, explorative, outgoing, and fun nature was actively displayed throughout her life
  
  from being an accomplished pianist, to a skilled and passionate horse rider, swimmer, tennis
  
  player and pure love for all things outdoors especially spending time at the beach. Mary will be
  
  remembered most for her cheerful, fun, affectionate, nurturing nature, opening her home, and
  
  making everyone feel like family. She was easily loved and will be deeply missed by those lucky
  
  enough to have known her.
 
  To honor Mary, a Celebration of her Life will be hosted by family on Saturday January 27 th , 2024,
  
  from 11:30-2:30p.m. at Chez Shari, located at Manteca Golf Course, 305 North Union Rd.
