Mark Alan Curry passed away suddenly on the morning of July 7, 2022 in Sacramento, California. Mark leaves behind his wife Susie, daughters Robin (Charlie) and Alana (James), mother Betty, sister Kathy Gilbert (Greg), brother Steve (Lori), his nieces and nephews, and so many beloved friends and family members who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis. Though he was taken from us too soon, his love and friendship will remain a beacon of light to all those who knew him. Mark was born on February 10, 1961 in Boulder, Colorado to Dennis and Betty Curry. While he spent his early years in Colorado and Omaha, Mark spent most of his youth in his hometown of Moraga, California where he made many lifelong friends with whom he remained close all his life. He moved to the Sacramento area to attend Sierra College in Rocklin in 1979. Mark met his beloved wife Susie in 2000 while delivering to the Raley’s where she worked in Oakley. They were married in 2007 and enjoyed many adventures together during their 22 years as a happy couple. They loved every minute of every planned or spontaneous trip taken. The most important thing they cherished was family time. These family memories were priceless. They worked endless hours together to make their home, “Roblana,” beautiful and cozy. Mark was most proud of all the remodeling he completed with his own bare hands with his wife by his side. Mark and Susie were inseparable and loved each other deeply. They had truly found their soulmates in each other. With a deep passion for the outdoors and an adventurous spirit, Mark longed to be outdoors as much as possible. He spent countless hours hiking, camping, kayaking, riding his motorcycle, camping in the open, and exploring the Sierras, which he affectionately referred to as his “playground.” Mark enjoyed sharing his appreciation for and knowledge of the outdoors with his two daughters any chance he got. Today, his daughters embrace this same passion for the outdoors and continue to enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring as they once did together. Anyone who needed a hand or just wanted a second opinion asked Mark. If Mark couldn't figure it out, he'd find someone who could before he could rest. He was determined and passionate about everything he did. He could be counted on without hesitation, and would rise to the task to help support family members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, even strangers. He never failed to go out of his way to support someone in need with all of the empathy, love, and good humor he could muster. Those who knew him best always knew that he was only a phone call or text away. Mark proudly worked for the United States Postal Service for 15 years. Mark was a cherished husband, daddy, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. His loved ones will be honoring him at a celebration of life at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 16 at Greenhaven Lutheran Church, 475 Florin Rd, Sacramento, CA with a reception to follow. Flowers can be sent to Greenhaven Lutheran Church and memorial messages, memories, and photos can be left here on the Sierra View Chapel page for his family to enjoy. Donations can also be made to the Sierra Nevada Alliance in Mark’s name to help protect and restore areas in the Sierras that he treasured.
