Margaret Rose Heintz (born Margaret Rose Konetski), 95, of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully, November 2, 2025, surrounded by family.
Margaret was born September 26, 1930, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Stanley and Helen (Victor) Konetski. She had two sisters, Velora Upstone and Cecilia Lonergan. She attended Muldoon High School in Rockford and moved to Sacramento at the age of 18.
In Sacramento, she met her husband, Joseph Richard Heintz, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married on November 9, 1952, in Sacramento and remained devoted to one another until Joseph’s passing in 2021. They raised five children: Stanley Heintz (Paula); Roselen Newstat (Ron); Jan Hammon; Timothy Heintz (Sharon); and Sandra Bugalski (Bob). Margaret and Richard were blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Helen Konetski, her sister Velora Upstone, her husband J. Richard Heintz, and daughter Roselen Newstat.
Margaret’s career spanned several decades as a secretary/administrative assistant for various employers, primarily the State of California and the Los Rios Community College District (American River College, Cosumnes River College and LRCC District Office), from which she retired after many years of dedicated service. While raising her children, she also provided in-home daycare, affectionately known as “Mama Heintz,” caring for many area children.
A lifelong music lover, Margaret studied piano in her youth and taught piano in adulthood. She later studied the organ and performed in recitals and music festivals.
Margaret and Richard were members of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Sacramento, where they were active parishioners, particularly with the church's food ministry, baking cakes for dinners for people in need, up to their final years of life. They enjoyed traveling in their travel trailer, especially journeys to Twin Lakes for fishing and camping, and embarked on longer trips across America and to Alaska.
Those who knew Margaret remember her as warm and friendly, a devoted mother and homemaker who kept a beautiful home and delighted in preparing meals for large family gatherings. She also loved games, especially Pinochle and Cribbage, as well as playing board games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at Calvary Cemetery located at 7101 Verner Avenue in Citrus Heights, California, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will take place following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sacramento, Sharing God's Bounty program, Loaves and Fishes, Sacramento Food bank, or any other charity.
