Karl Hlawaty

KARL HLAWATY Karl passed away in Carmichael on April 6, 2022, at the age of 94. Karl was born and raised in Germany. As a young boy he worked in his father’s ice cream parlor in Germany. He served in the German military during WWII. Throughout his young adultyears,he worked in a steel factory then trained and mastered the trade of baking to become a professional baker owning his own bakeries in Canada and Carmichael. Karl’s Pastry Shop in Crestview Shopping Center in Carmichael continues to be fondly remembered by many in the area as the bakery with their favorite pie, cake, cookie,danishor bread. Dozens of cookies were also prepared for social events in the Sacramento region along with many wedding cakes. Some of Karl’s favorite pastimes were taking trips back to Germany, hiking in the Black Forest, listening and dancing to Swing/Big Band music; especially Begin the Beguine by Artie Shaw and sharing his knowledge of historical events. Karl is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helga Hlawaty, children, Ingrid Bride (Robert), Ralph Hlawaty (Dana), Karl Hlawaty (Glenda); 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a later date.
