Joseph Richard Heintz

November 17, 1929 — July 12, 2021

Joseph Richard Heintz was born in Yakima, Washington. Son of Frank Joseph and Rose Heintz on November 17, 1929. He moved to Sacramento, California in 1945 with his parents. Richard graduated from McClatchy High School in 1948 and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He met Margaret Konetski in 1950, and they were married at Holy Spirit Church in Sacramento in 1952. Richard passed away peacefully on July 12, 2021, surrounded by family.

Richard loved gardening, baking fishing, camping and traveling with Margaret in their

RV. He was a Scout master and participated in many scouting activities. He co-owned Heintz Bakery in Country Club Centre with his sister Alice Horner. In 1960 he was elected and served as president of the Sacramento Retail Bakers Association. After selling the bakery in 1982, Richard continued his baking career with Bel Air and Raley's at their central bakery facility in West Sacramento. He retired in 1993 but continued baking at home, making pizzas, cookies, and a wide range of other sweet treats, including birthday and wedding cakes for the family.

Richard was a caring, devoted patient, and loving father, grandfather and husband. He delighted in attending his children's and grandchildren's musical and sporting events.

In November 2019, he enjoyed his 90th birthday celebration, surrounded by his family.

Richard was a hard working, kind, gentle, and giving person. He is dearly missed.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 69 years, and 5 children:

Stan Heintz ( Paula), Roselen Newstat ( Ron), Jan Hammon, Tim Heintz (Sharon), and Sandra Bugalski ( Bob). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Patricia Smyth, and nephew, Joseph Horner. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Joseph and Rose Heintz , as well as his sister and brother in law, Alice and Nelson Horner.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many people who helped care for Richard in the last 19 months of his life. Of particular note are Tala and Mitch, as well as the staff and caregivers at Oakmont East Sacramento, Bristol Hospice, and Rivers Edge Chateau. In addition, Father Davy from St Mary's Parish in Sacramento, who provided many spiritual blessings and great comfort to Richard, Margaret, and the family.

Funeral mass to be held at St Ignatius Church 3245 Arden way, Sacramento on Saturday July 23, 2022, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loave's and Fishes in Sacramento, the Sacramento Food Bank, or any charity of choice.
