John Peter Bardessono, born in Sanitarium, California on July 31, 1955, passed away in his home in Elverta, California on April 4, 2026, at the age of 70. Raised in Yountville, he was the middle of Peter and Maxine Bardessono’s five children, who provided a warm, family-centered childhood. John frequently told stories of his upbringing: walking to his Noni’s house, helping his dad and Uncle Steve in the vineyards, and many shenanigans shared with his siblings and cousins. The foundations laid during his childhood remained with him always, reflected in the strong values and resilient work ethic he upheld throughout his life.
John attended Yountville Elementary School and graduated from Vintage High School with the class of 1973. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Business/Accounting from California State University, Sacramento in 1984. It was there that he met his wife of 42 years, Cindy, who shared his Catholic faith and vision for raising a family rooted in those same traditions.
A dedicated professional, John gave back to his alma mater by serving as the Accountant and Data Processing Manager for the Sacramento State Foundation. As a natural leader and organizer, he segued into information systems as the Information Systems Manager with Administrative Systems, Inc. for a decade. He later returned to public service at the California State Board of Equalization/CDTFA, where he retired as a Tax Audit Supervisor in December 2019 with 27 years of state service.
John was a hardworking, dependable man who provided for his family through both his career and his wise advice. He was a wonderful example of a steady, fatherly role model, living out his faith in his everyday life and always ensuring that his loved ones came first.
When his children were young, John was an active part of their lives. He routinely attended Mass with his family and gave readings during the service, supported their various youth sports organizations, and his son’s Boy Scout Troop 224. He also stepped up as PTA President for Center High School and enjoyed outings to the shooting range with his sons.
John earned the distinguished Eagle Scout award in November 1973 with Troop 1, Saint Helena, and spoke fondly of his memories at Camp Silverado. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and researching ancestry and World War II history. In retirement, John continued his spirit of service by volunteering with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
John was preceded in death by his father, Peter John Bardessono. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; his mother, Maxine, age 96; his four children: Christina (Neal) Harknett
of Reno, Nevada; Katie (Matt) Davis of Tomball, Texas; Peter (Cassandra) Bardessono of Lincoln, California; and Matthew Bardessono (Olivia Lucatuorto) of Sacramento, California.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Aidan and Andrew Harknett, Claire and Clark Davis, Emma and Maya Bardessono, and Matteo and Joani Bardessono; his four siblings: Bruce Bardessono, Bonnie Casey, Annette Knight, and Thomas Bardessono; and many others within the extended Bardessono family.
Initial public viewing on Monday, April 20 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Sierra View Funeral Home, 6201 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael. Services will continue Tuesday, April 21, at St. Clare’s Catholic Church, 1950 Junction Blvd, Roseville, with a second viewing beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Union City Cemetery, 9600 Watt Avenue, Roseville, with a reception after at St. Clare’s, Morris Hall.
In lieu of flowers, John’s family is asking for donations to be made to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1 and The COPD Foundation.
