James Duane Betry

April 17, 1945 — March 30, 2026


  • James (Jim) Duane Betry, born in Cambridge, England, came to the
  • United States in February 1946 and died at home in Rancho
  • Cordova on March 30, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father,
  • grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle.
  • Jim passed away after a 7-year courageous battle with cancer. He
  • was the loving spouse and caregiver to his wife of 38 years, Joyce
  • Betry, and he was very proud to do so for her until shortly before
  • his passing. Jim was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and loved
  • fishing in the Klamath River. Jim was immensely proud of and
  • loved his family.

  • He is survived by his devoted family, wife Joyce Betry, sons Matthew Betry
  • (Michelle), Andrew Betry (Alicia), sister Beverly Pigsley, daughters Lori
  • Paul, Patricia Paul, grandchildren, Jenna and Jazzlyn Betry, Dale Reed (Misty),
  • Kierra Paul, Adriana Molina, Veronica Molina, great-grandchildren, Anthony
  • Reed (Tina), Azlynn Reed, Daniel Reed (Jessica), Alexander Burns,
  • Dawson Reed (Tara), great-great grandchildren Lexi, Ryatt, Daniel Jr.,
  • Brian, Sylis, niece Laura Pigsley, nephew Mike Pigsley (Missy), his lifelong
  • best friend David Berry, and many other cherished friends, all of whom will
  • remember him for his dedication, compassion, and love of life. He was
  • predeceased by his parents, Duane and Nancy Betry, son Robin Paul,
  • grandson Brian Reed, and great-granddaughter Anikka Reed. Jim's legacy
  • will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will forever be
  • held in our hearts.

  • Jim served in the U.S. Navy as a P3 Systems Analyst in the Vietnam War.
  • He earned the National Defense Service Medal on October 18, 1967, and
  • the Vietnam Service Medal on March 21, 1968. He will rest forever in the
  • Roseburg National Cemetery in Roseburg, Oregon, a place that he loved.

  • The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses, and Hospice
  • personnel at Mather VA Hospital for their loving care, especially Dr. Lane
  • Squires and his staff, and Dr. Shyam Rao and his staff at U.C. Davis.
