A good, kind, caring, generous and trustworthy man—these are the words most often echoed by those who were grateful to meet and know Gary Lee Little. His easygoing nature and natural sense of logic accompanied him throughout his life, earning him lasting friendships and deep respect from colleagues, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Born in 1952 in Jamaica, New York, Gary spent his early childhood in Fullerton, California, where many of his fondest memories were formed. Sacramento, however, became the place he chose to call home for the remainder of his 73 remarkable years. His move to Sacramento was solidified through his graduation from Sacramento State University and his early career as a Legislative Analyst for California’s elected officials. He later made history as the City of Sacramento’s first Affirmative Action Officer. It was during this time that Gary met and married his soulmate, Sandra. He went on to serve as a Neighborhood Services Area Director until his early retirement.
Family was at the center of Gary’s world. He remained deeply devoted both to the family he was born into and to the one he built during his 44-year marriage with Sandra. The rhythm of family life often moved around Gary’s joyful presence and thoughtful ideas. Gatherings with his sisters—Dolores in Los Angeles and Elaine in Fullerton—and Sandra were filled with warmth, laughter, and connection. These moments were often shared with their children, Devisteen and John, along with his niece Robbin.
In recent years, Gary found great joy in traveling with his twin
granddaughters, Jonelle and Jocelynn.
Their annual train trips to Fullerton became cherished traditions, filled with summer adventures at Disneyland and most recently, two memorable days at Universal Studios. Gary remained active, vibrant, and forever young at heart—both in mind and spirit.
