Gary Brian Chaney, 74, of Orangevale, California, passed away on April 18, 2026.

Gary was born in San Francisco and spent most of his life in Northern California. He began working at just 17 years old as a truck driver and went on to build a long and hardworking career as both a driver and master diesel mechanic. Over the years, he drove almost 2 million miles and took pride in the roads, structures, and projects he helped build across California, including Marine World in Vallejo. He was known for being able to fix just about anything and preferred “turning a wrench” over paperwork any day.

Gary had a deep love for the outdoors and anything with a motor. He enjoyed cars, diesel trucks, motorcycles, and boats, and spent years traveling across the country on his Harley with little more than a tent and a bag. He was an avid fisherman who loved chasing big catches and sharing stories, especially about the marlins he caught around the world. He also enjoyed classic westerns, reality shows about rugged industries, and spending time outside on walks.

Above all, Gary was strong, loving, and devoted to his family. He showed his love through what he did, always helping, fixing, and providing for those he cared about. He also had a funny, mischievous streak, especially later in life, often paired with a grin that those close to him knew well.

Gary is survived by his daughters, Laura Perkins; Casey Cerezo (Paul); and Christine Perry; his grandchildren, Garrett, Patrick, Sean, Hannah, Kane, Joey, and Chase; his great-grandchildren, Alexander, Maximus, Amelia, William, and Madelyn; his sisters, Pam Alvarado (Efran) and Charlotte Robert (Dave); and his brother, Timothy Chaney (Lamaan). He was preceded in death by his wife Tammy Chaney.

He will be deeply missed and remembered forever.

A celebration of life will be held in early fall, with details to be shared at a later time.
