Florence Alice Smith, age 95, passed away, in Carmichael, CA on March 16, surrounded by her three daughters.
Florence was born on June 5, 1930, in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, to Newton Smith and Marion Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents and five of her six siblings.
Florence married Joseph Botelho in Fairhaven, December of 1949 and shortly after they moved to Denver, Colorado. In 1951 they relocated to Vallejo, California, where her daughter Debbi was born. In 1954, they settled in Sacramento, California, where daughters Patti and Becky were born.
Florence began her career in state service in 1961 with Caltrans in a limited-term position in the accounts payable unit. She worked for various CA state departments before returning to Caltrans and retiring as a Senior Accounting Officer.
She was actively involved in local politics, served on the Democratic Central Committee and campaigned for local issues and candidates. Florence enjoyed traveling, loved music, and cherished sharing good food with family and friends.
She is survived by her three daughters: Debbi Overmyer (Michael), Patti Moore (Tom), and Becky Botelho (Russell); her five grandchildren: Matthew Overmyer (Laura), Megan Desideri (Mat), Christopher Jaggers (Andrea), Kevin Silvas, and Jonathan Tanihana, and her six great-grandchildren: Rachel, Zack, Asher, Eli, Olivia, and Hudson.
Florence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be private and her ashes will be scattered on her beloved Cuttyhunk Island in Massachusetts. Any remembrances can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
