Edward Lynn "Eddie" Aliff 

August 18, 1949 – June 17, 2026

Edward Lynn Aliff, lovingly known as "Eddie," "Eddie Spaghetti," and "The Candyman," passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 17, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born in Eccles, West Virginia, to Clyde and Phyllis Daniel Aliff, Eddie later moved with his family to Oakland, California, where he spent most of his life and built lasting friendships and cherished memories.

Eddie graduated from San Lorenzo High School, where he met Lorraine Plonus. Together they raised two daughters, Barbara and Heather. Although their marriage ended in 1980, Eddie always spoke of Lorraine with kindness and taught his daughters the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and family.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Aliff. He is survived by his brother, Steve Aliff; his daughters, Barbara Rhoades (Steve) and Heather Mondot (Steve); his grandchildren, Brian McGregor, Kaitlyn McGregor, Dylan Mondot, and Morgan Mondot; and his great-grandchildren, Quinn and Monte Burklin.

A talented cook, Eddie spent much of his career working in restaurants throughout the East Bay Area. He took pride in his work and was known for his patience, generosity, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Family was always at the center of Eddie's life. He loved fishing, camping, family picnics, cooking holiday meals, watching cooking shows, listening to music, and enjoying movies. Some of his happiest moments were spent fishing at Lake Chabot and Del Valle, camping with family, preparing incredible meals, and sharing stories around the table.

Eddie was also a gifted woodworker and craftsman who created beautiful handmade carvings, including animals, crosses, dolphins, elephants, and totem poles. Every piece reflected the care, patience, and love he poured into everything he made.

Known affectionately as "The Candyman," Eddie rarely went anywhere without candy in his pocket. He especially enjoyed sharing it with firefighters, paramedics, caregivers, and anyone who could use a smile. It was one of the many ways he brightened the lives of those around him.

Those who knew Eddie will remember his quick wit, his sense of humor, his love of storytelling, and his remarkable ability to make people feel valued and welcome. He was kind, patient, generous, and deeply caring toward the people in his life.

After facing health challenges with courage and grace in recent years, Eddie continued to touch the lives of those around him. His family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, doctors, nurses, support staff, friends, and helpers who cared for him throughout his journey. From CEI and Willow Creek Memory Care in Castro Valley to the many medical professionals and behind-the-scenes supporters who showed him compassion, dignity, friendship, and kindness, your care meant more than words can express. Eddie spoke often of the people who helped him, and he appreciated each of you deeply.

Eddie's greatest legacy is the love he shared, the memories he created, and the countless lives he touched through simple acts of kindness.

A celebration of Eddie's life will be held at Lake Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, California. Friends and family wishing to attend are encouraged to contact the family for additional details.
