Dorothy Phillips Parrish 1941 – 2025

Dorothy “Dot” returned to her Heavenly Father in Loomis, California, on April 15, 2025. She will be forever remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for family, friends, and animals.

Born on August 9, 1941, to John C. Phillips and Catherine Butterfield, Dorothy was the youngest of nine siblings: Harold (Alice), Clair LeRoy (Lois), Elmo (Dorothy), Thelma Vincent (Grant), Alvin (Joy), Ruth (Dean), Alfred, and Kenneth (Lyn). She was raised in Taylorsville, Utah, in a home filled with faith, laughter, and strong family values.

Dorothy built a distinguished career in court reporting, first founding a successful Court Reporting School in Salt Lake City before continuing her work at the Sacramento Superior Court after moving to Northern California. She was an intelligent, dedicated professional who took pride in her work and the opportunities it provided to help others.

Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for them throughout her life. From pets she nurtured at home to her admiration for wildlife during her travels, Dorothy’s gentle nature shone in her interactions with all creatures.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Danny Parrish, with whom she had one beloved daughter, Holly (Kevin). Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Alexandra and Andrew Bezner, whom she cherished deeply. A devoted member of the LDS Church, Dorothy served as a Sunday School teacher, guiding others with faith and compassion. She also dedicated many years to serving her community as a 4-H leader and literacy tutor, exemplifying her passion for education and mentorship.

Dorothy was a lifelong learner, immersing herself in financial investments and real estate before earning her real estate license. She also had a deep love for travel, embarking on unforgettable adventures with her daughter across the U.S. and around the world. Together, they explored England, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, Indonesia, China, India, and Africa, creating treasured memories that will endure.

Although Dorothy lived a life filled with hard work and service, her heart was always with the family she adored. Her warmth, generosity, sweet smile (and deviled eggs) will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Parrish family extends heartfelt gratitude to the friends and caregivers who provided comfort and support during Dorothy’s final years.
