David Alden Remmerde passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born in Medford, Oregon, on September 15, 1943 to Sarah Venita and Gerrit Henry Remmerde. He graduated from Paradise High School in 1961 and received a Bachelor's Degree from Chico State shortly after. Professionally, he spent many years in law enforcement as a parole officer and investigator for the Butte County District Attorney’s office.
He was an adventurer and lived many places during his lifetime, including Oregon, California, Missouri, Idaho, and Mexico. He spent the last 13 years of his life in Roseville, California, where he enjoyed spending time with his daughter’s family and with his good friend, Virginia Hopper. He had a deep love for his siblings and often drove across many states to visit them in his Toyota Prius, which he cleverly equipped with a reclining bed and camp stove. He prided himself on being frugal, resourceful, and always prepared.
David was a lifelong treasure hunter and a savvy collector of all things possessing utility. He could fix almost anything and enjoyed helping others with repairs. He loved good Mexican food and joined his daughter most weeks for lunch at various local restaurants, always hoping to rediscover the authentic flavors he remembered from his years living in Mexico.
His quick wit and keen intelligence fueled an incredible sense of humor that was widely appreciated by friends and family. You could always count on him to pick something ridiculously funny out of thin air or offer a perfectly timed punny response.
David is survived by his daughter Sarah Newton and her husband, John; five grandchildren, Owen, Andrew, and Bennett Newton, and Grace and Evan Malone; his sister, Cheryl Remmerde (Peter Conklin); and his brother, Jon Remmerde (wife Laura).
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamzin Malone; his brother, Gerrit Remmerde; his sister, Venita Cullum; and his parents, Sarah Venita and Gerrit Henry Remmerde. The passing of his brother, Robert “Bob” Remmerde (wife Sharon), closely followed David's death.
There will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, please honor David’s spirit by enjoying a delicious Mexican meal or taking time out of your day to go on a treasure hunt.
