Mark 1:17: “Come, follow Me…and I will make you fishers of men.”
David Lawrence Helms, 59, entered eternity on October 9, 2025, in Carmichael, California. He was born on October 23, 1965, at the United States Naval Hospital in San Diego, California to Stanley Lawrence and Wanda Rosetta (Gollaher). He graduated high school in Sacramento County in 1986 and went on to study Criminal Justice earning his degree.
First and foremost, David lived a life that reflected his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He knew, loved, and served as a Christ Follower whose allegiance to Jesus grew with every loss and every victory experienced. Fearless and unashamed, he stood firm in the face of trials always sharing the message of the Gospel with conviction, confidence, and joy.
David was an entrepreneur with many skills- a professional truck driver, master plumber, licensed contractor, business owner. He worked with law enforcement and was an active member of diverse security teams all throughout his life. David embraced the outdoors, fishing, diesel trucks, the firing range, cooking and traveling. He loved going on road trips with his wife Andrea, and their sphynx kitties up and down the entire west coast. David’s box turtle, George, whom he has had since 1989, inspired him to write Christian books for children, including “The Tail of George’s Journey”- a story about discovering Jesus as portrayed through the life of two young turtles.
Close to David’s heart are the many lifelong friendships he made and cherished through the ministry of men’s bible study in California (Fair Oaks, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Chino Hills), and in Washington state (Auburn, Sumner, Covington). He was a member of Beach Cities Church and Calvary Chapel in Southern California.
A loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather, David is survived by his wife, Andrea, and their nephew David Alan (Maci) and niece, Leila, his father-in-law, Abbas, his mother Wanda, brother Randy (Mina) and sister, Debbie, of California. David is survived by his sons Zachary (grandson Bentley) and Matthew (Meghan and grandsons Declan and Jameson), daughter Brianna (Joe and grandsons Toby and Payton), as well as the mother of his children, Kimberly, of Idaho, in addition to many nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be planned.
