David Lowell Gates, 72, of Walnut Grove, California, passed away on July 3, 2026. Born on September 13, 1953, in Tracy, California, David lived a life marked by his love of family and the enduring relationships he cherished throughout his life. David was the beloved son of Lowell and Mary Ann Gates. He is survived by his siblings, Janice Lake, Daniel Gates, and Darien Gates (Debbie); his nephew, Seth Lake; his nieces, Tiffany Lake (Ryan) and Sarah Sanches (Andre); and his great-niece, Emily Sanches. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Mary Ann Gates. David proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seaman from 1972 to 1975 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Following his military service, David built a career in accounting with the State of California where he served thirty years and was known for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. Outside of work, David was a lifelong sports enthusiast. From an early age, he enjoyed following athletics, especially cheering for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed traveling, particularly with his brothers, sharing memorable trips to watch his favorite teams play. Those who knew David will remember him for his dry sense of humor, his remarkable knowledge of sports trivia, and the warmth and loyalty he brought to family and friends. He found joy in simple moments spent with loved ones and leaves behind many cherished memories. David will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
