Carol Jane Stone

What a Wonderful Life!

Carol Jane Stone, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at her home in Roseville, California. She was 89 years old.

Carol was born to Wilda and Clyde Forrester on November 25, 1936 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Due to WW2 the family traveled by train to California so her father could support the war effort by working for the Benicia Arsenal. Carol graduated from Benicia High School in 1954 and furthered her education at Vallejo City College where she met her husband Douglas Stone. They married on the August 11, 1957. Carol continued her education at Sacramento State College earning her teaching degree and then completed her Master’s degree while working as a teacher for the San Juan School District at Green Oaks Elementary School in Orangevale. She received numerous “Best Teacher of the Year” awards all while raising three children on a ranch in Roseville. Carol was known for her dramatic arts where the children played Peter Pan in the Spring and the Nativity scene at Christmas.

Carol was famous for her bright, cheerful smile and her unshakable positivity. She was always loving to everyone she met, and she always wanted to "go" to enjoy life and the people in it. In 1976, Doug and Carol loaded up the family in a motorhome and toured America, visiting family in Springfield, Massachusetts, and her brother in Texas. She was a member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), she ran marathons and even learned how to fly planes because Carol was tenacious and never slowed down.

After retirement, she volunteered all over Sacramento to help children, including tutoring at the Children's Receiving Home and supporting students at American River College. She also taught herself to tap dance, and that became her greatest joy. Carol started multiple tap dance groups, choreographed routines, and performed for years at retirement facilities and community centers throughout Sacramento. Her social world revolved around the lovely ladies who practiced tap every Tuesday and Thursday at the backyard tap studio she created at her home.

Carol was a devoted Christian and loved her church family at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where her faith and generous spirit touched so many lives.

Carol was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Doug. Carol is survived by her brother John Forrester (Shirley), her three children Jeff Stone (Casey), Kathy Weldon (Scott) and Ed Stone (Liz). Carol is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Kyle, Tony, Lisa, Alycia, Natalie and Troy plus 6 great grandchildren.

Carol's Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 12:00 noon at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, located at 6201 Spruce Avenue, Sacramento, California. Carol spread love and joy everywhere she went, so expect fun, upbeat music and lots of tap dancing. A reception will be held directly after the service, provided sweetly by the church congregation.
