Alice Marie Nelson

This was written by her great-granddaughter in 2016 at the age of eleven. A Long Time Ago

In 1926, Alice Marie Kuehni was born. Her parent's names were Arnold and Amelia. She grew up on a farm in Madison, Wisconsin. Alice's family raised mainly tobacco and digitalis, which is a heart medicine, along with other small crops. In 1928, two years later, her mother had a baby boy, whom they named Norman. Happily, she also attended a school with Norman when he was old enough in the same town.

In the October of 1929, the Great Depression hit. Alice was only three years old. When this happened, Alice's grandparents, who owned a large farm, would bring them food. They had plenty of things like carrots, tomatoes, peaches, and other fresh fruits and vegetables. Alice's family also knew a man who had recently moved to Wisconsin from New York. Sadly, he told them stories of how some people in New York committed suicide because they were so hopeless.

Then in 1946, World War Il hit. Alice was nineteen then. Her father worked in the National Guard at a camp near their house. Sympathetically, almost every day, Alice and her little sister Nancy along with their mother would willingly go to the camp andbring him some delicious food. That same year, she started her first job with Oscar Meyer's meat plant, which she worked for a couple years.

When Alice was 19, she married Thomas Nelson, whose nickname was Tom, in1945. They were married in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Together they toured the thumb of Wisconsin and also saw the Ringling Brother's circus. They traveled back to Stoughton and lived quietly for several years. Excitingly, their son John Arnold Nelson was born in 1947 and his younger sister Karen Nelson was born in 1950.

Fifteen happy years after they were married, in 1960, Thomas and Alice Nelson moved to Sacramento, California. After living there for a year to meet the government requirements, Alice started working for the California government. While waiting for that long year to go by, she steadily worked for a company called Remington Rend. The company sold typewriters, paper, and other such supplies. After that, she worked for the California government for about 20 years.

On November 9, 1968, Alice's son John married Pamela Susan Beckham. Then in 1971, John and Pamela Nelson had a son, Michael John Nelson and in 1977, they had a daughter, Susan Marie Nelson. Unfortunately, her jolly husband, who was Thomas Nelson, died on April 15, 2001. Before he died, Alice and he had been renting out the house to their grandson, Michael. Now, Alice decided to go live with him. That is where she is living now.
